It appears that I am not the only reader duped into buying a book that I had previously read either under a different title or attached to another book. Unfortunately, I bought the book for my Kindle on the day it was available and did not have the advance warning by a helpful reviewer.This would have been an acceptable practice if the synopsis had mentioned the story was previously released and included as a novella with another book. My budget for books is not unlimited and I feel cheated.
This is the exact same novella included in the "Cost of Betrayal" combo book! Don't buy the same book you may already have (like I did)!!
Love Dee’s work. Would have really liked a conclusive ending, especially since this was a novella and could have had a satisfying ending.
This book, which is really a novella, said it had 384 pages in the description. no way! Everything in this book was rushed and basically just had the characters rehashing the evidence over and over again. It was hard to get into the story with the way it was presented. Have always been a big fan of this author and she usually gives the reader a suspenseful story....not this time. Would not recommend this book!
"Betrayal" by Dee Henderson was like going back to a favorite restaurant for their award-winning dessert. It was a pleasure to see the team of Paul & Ann Falcon once again. In this novella, the crime has already happened, the criminal convicted, albeit falsely, and incarcerated. Ann and then Paul become convinced that a grave injustice has happened and swiftly work on correcting the error by seeing the accused Janelle Roberts is pardoned and freed from jail.A good deal of the story is spent trying to discovering who killed Andrew, Janelle's boy-friend, getting Janelle to acknowledging the real killer, and then helping the reader see the process of healing which Janelle must travel through. The character of Greg, a counselor with a wealth of experience personally and professionally with trauma victims, helps her work through steps of recovery on his idyllic island. This is an emotional journey and you are pulled into the struggle. This story ends differently than some typical detective stories, but it is totally True To Real Life. Life is not neat and tidy with chapter headings and everything finished by the end of the month, season, or year! This book left you to speculate concerning a number of items, but you were left with a confidence that things would ultimately conclude well. I rate this story a 5. Dee does not disappoint, treat you like idiots, or cut off your imagination. Thanks Dee for a Great Job.
Enjoyed the story. But, I also was hoping for a who-done-it ending. The way it ended, you’re not even sure the story will continue in the future. The heroine may just be left with unanswered questions for the rest of her life. Hopefully, this is part of a series and there will be a conclusion.
Dee is a master. Her characters 'do' everyday things while taking us on epic adventures. I love revisiting old friends from previous stories. Dee, you are the best.
After spending 6 years in prison Ann & Paul Falcon find answers to a cold case after finding a pocket knife that was declared the murder weapon. Walk through Janelles recovery. Trying to find out who really killed her boyfriend Andrew. Good for young adults.
