Amazing, helpful book! If you wanna pass nursing school this can help with any block.

I was really looking for an interactive computer program that had sample NCLEX-PN questions on it so that I could practice that style of questioning. When I got this I realized it's just information that tells you how to answer the nclex questions, not really what I was looking for. Bummer!!

Dr Thompson talks about some of the new brain research that has come out recently in this book and shows how to apply it to our lives. I was particularly taken with learning about my "Implicit" memories--those emotionally charged events that I have buried and are now in my subconscious level --not aware of them yet reacting to them and how they play havoc in my life today. I have learned to "pay attention to what I am paying attention to". I call it, (not his term), Hysterical, Historical. I know if I react to something in an "over the top" kind of way, then I need to figure out where that is coming from...somewhere in my past and pay attention to it and journal it and work through it. There are many other new brain research he goes over in this book. It is fascinating!

In this work, I have seen so many helpful truisms about growing as a disciple of Jesus. I now understand WHY writing prayers and copying Scripture texts draws me deeper into my communion with my Heavenly Father each morning. I have a clearer understanding of how guilt and shame are NOT from God. I have been affirmed about repentance as turning to God, rather than trying to turn away from sin. This book is a MUST for ANYONE who wishes to know more about how God designed us for communion with Him and one another.

This book radically changed my perception on how God uses our brain formation in our sanctification. Accessible and very fascinating!Of all the books I read this past year, this one was the most interesting. Dr. Thompson integrates the latest findings in neuroscience to show how the mind actually changes. Thompson borrows John Calvin’s description of the Psalter as an Anatomy of the Soul. His book illustrates how our minds embody our physical self, that is profoundly relational, regulates our flow of energy, and is interconnected with other’s minds. He goes on to say that the biblical concept of the “heart” is manifested most profoundly at the level of the prefrontal cortex (the front part of our brain).Basically, this book explains neurologically how people change. Thompson’s premise is that a healthy, mature person has a fully integrated mind. Half of the book reads like a scientific text book for dummies and the other half reads like a guide for holistic, biblical change.One of the most shocking moments in the book is when Thompson says, “there is no such thing as an individual brain.” I’m still trying to sort that one out. He continues: “transformation requires a collaborative interaction, with one person empathically listening and responding to the other so that the speaker has the experience of feeling felt by another” (p. 137). In other words, storytelling is essential for making disciples in community. He explains that by telling and listening to each other’s stories, it opens the door to a different future. When we tell our story and others empathically listen, our brains become more integrated by forming new neurological pathways which then changes how we think and feel about our memories. Crazy stuff! An Anatomy of the Soul is a very stimulating read.

Will probably recommend this book as required reading for a graduate level leadership transformation program and yet this book is simple enough in its presentation of the divine connections between soul, flesh and spirit as to be helpful to everyone curious about why Christ said that gaining the whole world yet losing one's soul is such a great loss.

I love the topic, however the first half of the book was still explaining why I should read the book and be open to the ideas. Yes, yes, I'm already reading the book, let's get on with the content.

One of the best books I've read-- ever. It has solid depth, is thought provoking and replete with practical suggestions that actually work. I am going through this book slowly and intentionally, not wanting to miss anything. I am seeing changes in how I think and respond. The authour seems to have genuine care for his readers and lays out his information in a sensible and useable way. Each section is integrated and relevant to the others.A very hopeful and helpful book.

This is a most amazing read and is challenging as well. Stresses the significance of the anatomy of the brain and its impact on why we do what we do. Fills in a lot of gaps in understanding our relationship with God, knowing him, and being known by him in reference to our brain functions. This book establishes how we connect with each other from birth, and demonstrates the worth and pursuit of relationships in our lives, especially with our Creator. Confirms the belief that we were, and are, designed and complete only as we abide in God---an awe-inspiring paradigm for humankind.

The book is beautifully illustrated and the overall sentiment is sweet but it sort of seems disjointed. It lacks a flow with content going from general folk-type statements to statements about ancestors to how to cope when people aren't kind to you. It's meant to be a letter from a father to a daughter but it just reads like random statements that don't really feel like they work together or even communicate a point. For this reason it makes it difficult to engage in the story. I had hoped for a little more substance that would help introduce my daughter to a different religion and culture but unfortunately this book doesn't do that.

I loved reading this book. It is so simple, yet poetic. I do not have kids yet, but I plan to read this to them when I do iA. I also enjoy that this book highlights that Latinos can be Muslim, too. I have yet to see another book like this that makes Muslim Latino youth feel included and that they belong. Excellent work, Mark!

A gorgeous, gorgeous book. I bought it to read to my 5 and 8yo. We are neither Muslim nor Hispanic, but you don't need to be either to appreciate a beautiful book that celebrates the fact that strength and beauty come from diverse experiences and perspectives. Highly recommend to anyone looking to expand their kids' minds and universe.

The map has creases, but I won't be framing it for show so I suppose that's fine. The main problem is that the map is in Spanish with an English key. Again, this isn't a massive problem, but will cause some issues as most research sites are in the English translation.

Good map (paper). Not laminated, but a little less expensive. Can easily be framed, which is what I did, to preserve its integrity. Otherwise, map can be damaged (flimsy). Overall, I feel map deserves 5 stars, because it meets its intended purpose at a reasonable price. Recommended.

Poor product packaging means crushed edgesExcellent poster map, well printed, with a nice finish. However, the product is very poorly packaged. Consequently the edges of the poster are damaged.

Detailed and accurate. What more could you want. I laminated my map and put it on my coffee table for reference.

We are taking it to a high school in Nicaragua along with Spanish books that has neither books or maps of any kind. A great gift.

The highest resolution, best quality Africa map I've found. Up to date and has better roads than some much more expensive ones.
