One of the absolute best fiction books dealing with military fiction I have read I a very long time. As a retired Army 3 time Iraq combat vet it rang true to me. Especially being wounded on my 3rd tour and fighting to stay in. This book and its characters revolve heavily around warriors that are given second chances. Life happens to combat vets. Not all are able to deal well with coming home after combat. The author has a true understanding of this. I felt an emotional tug each time I read the background story to the main characters we are introduced to. Their issues resonated with me. After serving 20 yrs the warrior mindset never leaves. It is always a part of you. This book truly does honor to this. It honors our nation's Veterans. It does all this while weaving a story of Justice. Who wouldn't an entity out there that would be able to operate outside the boundaries of the law to take down the scumbags out there? That have moral convictions based upon military values? Look, our law enforcement and military hands are tied when it comes to dealing out justice at times and scumbags end walking away. Well, here's a book that solves those issues. While honoring our veterans. Veterans dealing justice. Veterans given second chances. If you are a combat veteran get this book. If want to know what drives combat vets, get it. You won't be disappointed by the story or the characters.
While I did enjoy this book, it was the promise of what is to come that kept my attention. I could do without the, "Cal: I don't know." , "Andy: Why not!". This drove me crazy until I got into the book. I have Hope's that the writer will grow and write with a more natural flow. At first I thought I was reading a draft of a TV script.Even with that, I loved the premise of the story and am looking forward to reading the series.
Back to War by CG CooperI have read and enjoyed all the books from the Corps Justice Series. And… I keep coming back to reread Back to War, the first book in the series. This novel is great! I love the intensity of Cal Stokes. His bravery and loyalty are meaningful and even, inspiring. Back to War is an exciting thriller filled with action. Marine Cal Stokes comes home from war only to find another kind of enemy that transforms his life. He battles this evil, often outside of the law, but always with a strong moral compass. Author C.G.Cooper is a phenomenal writer who knows how to put a story together. His characters are unforgettable. His storylines are compelling. The Corps Justice Series is by far the most entertaining on the market today. Back to War is the novel that started it all. I highly recommend C.G.Cooper's Back to War and the Corps Justice Series.
Remember when you were a kid and your mother said your drawing was beautiful, but it wasn't? When your friends said your cake was delicious and it really tasted like crap?They appreciate the effort, you have all the right ingredients and they want to encourage you to continue, so they lied.Whoever proofed and/or edited for this author did no favors by allowing the many plot holes and loose ends to slip by without notice. Creative criticisms are not a bad thing and they can help a talented individual become even better. Sometimes you can't see what's right in front of you, and an associate should have no problem saying "So...what about this?"That said, great premise to the story, good characters and what looks to be a promising future for this author!I'll certainly read book two and hope for the best.
I really liked one of his other books (A Life Worth Taking) but because it was the only one out, I couldn’t continue that series so I thought I’d try this one. It is predictable but good. I’d give it four stars but there were SO many typos in the kindle edition. There were also some loose ends that never got tied up and I’m assuming that will be in another book maybe? He introduces characters all the way up until the last fight scene happens too which I assume is to lay ground work for later. It was an easy read, allowed good stopping points, but it is definitely for a specific type of reader. If you are into military and enjoy the “cop mystery†type, definitely read this.
Writing a book is no mean feat, and I give the author credit for doing that. However, the quality of his writing is terribly lacking. The good guys are ALL extraordinarily good and selfless. They have no character flaws and are so downright unbelievable as to ruin the entire story. The bad guys are little more than an afterthought. Added to these issues are the grammatical errors: "bona fide" ends up as "bonified." Tenses are confused within sentences and paragraphs. Timelines are treated carelessly.Kindle Unlimited has been throwing Cooper's books at me as recommendations for months and I finally agreed to read this one. It'll be the last
A gang banger from post Katrina moves to TN and expands his empire. During a gang initiation they pick on the wrong couple, killing the man's fiancee. The fight is on. Cal is a patriotic marine and now he is out to find the last man involved in the attack. He has a lot of friends from and in the military who is willing to help.I love moral good guy verses evil bad guy themes. This was as good as my favorite characters from Sandford, Thor, Patterson, DeMille, and V. Vaughn. I just put the entire series on my wish list. The first three books are free. I highly recommend this book, and the author in particular.
Childish narrative. Every single one was a super soldier. His company was shown as the strongest military company in the world, rivaling non other. The villain was helpless against God of former marine cal. Horrible book. I. Only read it coz 3 parts of it were free in Amazon store. I Don't think if I'll read the next book of this.
