As advertised

The Art of Welding has been the most disappointing "how--to" book I've ever read. I found this book to be significantly lacking in content and far too general to really teach anything. Another annoyance was the large number of spelling and grammatical errors. In a book with so little content, these errors stand out and make you wonder if anyone even attempted to proofread this book before publishing. If you're looking to learn welding, I highly suggest that you avoid this book. You can find all the information you need, but in much greater detail, on the internet via articles, youtube videos, forums, etc.

This is a great book for the DYI. Easy to read, filled with helpful tips. Purchased it for my son which is interested in learning how to weld. Co-written by the West Coast Customs automotive reality TV show star Ryan Friedlinghaus. Photos to illustrate step by step actions.

John D. Kraus was my mentor in grad school. His ability to communicate as seen in the first edition of the book (1950 - Antennas) is still the standard and is directly what led me to OSU grad school. Advanced students should not only have this third edition, but should work to find a copy of the first edition too. As indicated, the third edition is strong on applications - something not available in many other antenna related books.

A classic. Pick one up before they all disappear. This book is a bible of antenna theory and will be appreciated by all who have had college-level math. Well written and with very clear diagrams.

I had lost my copy of this book in a fire. It had been my bible for antenna basic reference book for years, especially for helical antennas. It is a most welcome addition to my rebuilding of my reference library. John D. Kraus' book is one of the books I recommend for any engineers or hobbyist antenna reference library.

Everything is derived. My calculus knowledge is a bit rusty after all these years, but I appreciate the high level of the math and writing. I plan to use some of his original work in Helical antennas as described in the book. I can't think of a better vote for it.His Ham call was W8JK, I am W6JWN

I found some aspects of the text, especially chapters 6, 13 and 14, to be problematic. I thought the approach to the exposition of the theory of a given topic to be somewhat choppy. Much text is devoted to finding simplified expressions which can be distracting and impedes understanding. In a few instances, the reader is directed to external sources to get foundational details. And, often, the result presented applies only in special cases, such as, in the far field, or for electrically small antennas, or for antennas an odd integer multiple of a half wavelength. For example, in the section on self-impedance of a thin linear antenna (13-5), the statement is made that it is "common practice to shorten the antenna a few percent to make X11=0." Yet the expression presented for X11 is the sine integral which is non-zero everywhere except at Si(0). So, absent thorough exposition of the theory, this is not helpful to those interested in the general case.I believe this book would be vastly improved if a systematic approach, in the context of electromagnetic theory, is adopted for exposition of the material. Development of new topics should begin with first principles. Sections building on earlier sections should include appropriate back references. References to external papers or earlier editions should not be used as substitute for exposition of details as these sources are generally inaccessible to the reader. Recognizing the accessibility of powerful mathematics software, much of the material dealing with simplifying assumptions could be edited out in favor of more complete exposition of the theory.

There are few comparables to this book. As a corporate lawyer, I feel challenged that corporate scholarship in terms of relevance to humanity has more appeal to economists than lawyers! My learned friends must wake up to this reality if we are to be relevant in the current economic dispensation. Gate keeping must metamorphose urgently to gate openers.

Shukdev demonstrastes clearly the way forward. Great reading. Time for us all to engage into this marvelous, but possible, green new world.

Economies and markets rise and fall although there does appear to be a greater overall instability in recent times, leading many observers to note that maybe the system is sick on many levels. Despite bringing much wealth and development, it comes at a high cost of greater disparity to society and many associated problems.Is it too late to hit the reset button and transform the way of doing business for the future? The author believes it is not and this is his manifesto, setting out how sweeping changes could be made in a decade that have the capability to transform the lives of many, avert catastrophic social imbalance and even cut environmental and ecological damage risks. To make the world a better place would be an over-simplification: yet this is the noble objective.Of course one man cannot change everything but he can provide a catalyst for change. The book starts by giving a good background to the perceived problem, considering the role and place of the corporation worldwide before looking specifically at what has happened in the past and how it is impacting on current times and the future. After this the author’s views are laid out in detail.This is no wild-eyed conspiracy theory or political dogma-laden book. It is written in an academic style, with many citations and a very detailed index so the reader is positively encouraged to delve deep inside and learn more about the subject. As a reviewer one cannot take a position as to the claims being made, although it is fair to say that the author makes a convincing argument overall. Its style is a bit hard going and requires a lot of focus – maybe not a bad thing when you consider its subject – and it is probably better to adopt this tone than be too lightweight and risk having the argument batted away as being frivolous or badly thought out.For a politician or corporate leader, this could be one of those important books you need to take time to consider. For the rest of us, it might encourage us to push for change!

As someone who tends to hate on corporations a lot, I found this book to be very informative in terms of basic grounding of how the corporation came to be this way. Two useful aspects of corporations I took home from this were that 1) corporations were not always meant to be greedy, depraved, profit-making machines (it's all the Supreme Court's fault), and 2) corporations actually are responsible for a number of positive externalities (in addition to the plethora of negative social and environmental externalities that I, as a person with an extensive environmental background, was already familiar with).After reading this book I can say with more nuanced knowledge why I dislike the current status of corporations (which aspects in particular). I can also acknowledge that corporations can be vehicles for a great deal of good--provided that there's a sudden paradigm shift in how corporations are managed and for what purpose.In terms of the writing, I thought the book was fairly easy to follow. I did get lost in one chapter that discussed derivatives and other basic economic jargon, but that was only for one chapter. The rest was a pretty fun read. There were a few references to developments in current events or science that I felt might be unfamiliar to a lot of people, but that shouldn't detract from the readability of the book. It also helps to be familiar with basic economic, environmental, health, and social concepts. This book is a great read for people who are environmentally conscious.Finally, this book doesn't prescribe a worldwide social revolution aimed at the destruction of the corporation (so if that's what you're looking for, look elsewhere). Instead, it highlights their good and bad facets and talks about how corporations must transform in order to survive this next decade.

It had a few misspellings and errors, I'll admit. But after taking the state exam it seemed to cover the necessary info to pass!Great book for beginners.

The book to have if Obtaining your Distribution Water License. It’s easy to read and I enjoy it better than the California Book. Easier to understand.

It's a great book. full of knowledge and information if you're able to take the Drinking Water operator test.

Book is definitely worth the investment, it has helped me pass the class 2 water distribution, doesn't have everything you need to pass the exam like it claims, but is a great resource with good sample questions, also all the answers to the sample questions are in the back of the book so you know what the right answer is.

As a rule, I like to stay positive. Usually, I only post feedback when I enjoy/love a book. That said, I want to save other Setpoint Diet newbies from spending any money on this book. The title is misleading and needs to be changed. The recipes in this book do not follow the most basic guidelines set forth in The Setpoint Diet by Jonathan Bailor (Sold by: Hachette Book Group). How did this material even pass Amazon's basic content review?I could have forgiven the abysmal writing and complete lack of editing ... IF the recipes actually followed Bailor's original material. Sadly, that is not the case. Not even close. I've purchased several other recipe ebooks via Amazon that were clearly authored by someone looking to expand on (a cynical person might say capitalize on) another author's diet/nutrition advice. While none of my previous purchases of this type were perfect, I've always found something to like/try and I've never felt compelled to post a bad review. Until now.I "purchased" this ebook when the price was temporarily Free/$0. If I had spent even one cent on this item, I would have returned it for a refund within 5 minutes.

I am a big user of essential oils, but I don’t think they needed to be mentioned in detail with each condition. These sections could be better organized. Great examples of patients, family members, and friends are provided. The recipes and list of foods to eat is helpful. But, I think the plan could be laid out a little easier to understand. Most people would do better with longer meal plans. Overall, good information and a great resource. However, most of the information is already available.

I am woman hear me roar!So when I turned to page one of Kendra Elliot's second "Bones Secrets Novel" "Chilled" and realized the entire plot was centered around a mountain climbing manhunt I got a little giddy. Screw you reoccurring dream! I have a book to replace you."As a forensic nurse on a search and rescue team, Brynn Nealey braves a dangerous blizzard to find the survivors of a plane crash in the Cascade Mountains. Joining her is Alex Kinton, a former US marshal with self-destructive tendencies. (Which for the record I still recommend you read.) It's not that the book was bad. It wasn't. I read it in one sitting just like I did it's predecessor. (Not a bad sign.) I just didn't like the characters as much.I know what you're thinking...." How can you not like the characters as much? It's a series novel!"This is the part where I tell you are right AND wrong."Chilled" is in fact the second in a series. But (in what I'm going to call a random stroke of literary genius) the novels are completly unrelated. Want to read "Chilled" but haven't read "Hidden?" No problem. These are stand alone stories that are linked by one common thread: mystery. Capeesh? Awesome.So, back to the characters. I really liked Brynn (she woman, doctor, human shield extraordinaire.) I really liked Alex (raging egomaniac, pill popper with a mysterious past.) I'll even go so far as to say I really liked the killer in this novel (killer...do I really need to elaborate on that?) What I didn't like (or at the very least wasn't convinced of) was their connection. (Brynn and Alex that is. The killer I got right away. Crazy bastard.)Elliot is an extremely talented author. Especially when it comes to characterization. So when 50% of the way in I found myself caring more for one of the stories sub-players (Ryan) than the leads (that were very obviously supposed to end up together despite the fact that they knew next to nothing about the other) I was slightly concerned. (Ok, that's a lie... I was VERY concerned.)Maybe it was the intense plot that screwed with my ability to connect. Maybe I was so caught up in the details of "who" (and that's a big fat freaking WHO by the way) the people were that I gave very little attention to their reactions. Maybe I should stop reading books at 3 in the morning. Whatever the case may be I wanted, no NEEDED more, and I just didn't get it.So why DID I stay up until 3am reading "Chilled" if it wasn't firing on all cylinders? Hello!!!! Mountain, blizzards, avalanches and a not 1 but 2 people who are a little off their rocker. That's why.The plot was not the problem. The situations, and the unbelievable descriptive passages were spot on. That alone was enough to keep me sucked in, regardless if I wasn't exactly an eager beaver (oy, I should probably choose another word for that) when it came to the inevitable "sexy time" moments at the end of the book.So what is my verdict overall?It's good. (And by "good" I mean...my standards are almost unattainably high, you'll enjoy this book if you like authors like Tami Hoag or JD Robb. Do with that what you will.)Happy Reading my fellow Kindle-ites and remember: News anchors are the root of all evil. Ok, maybe not...but Katie Couric scares the piss out of me.

I'm a little dismayed at how many reviewers think the writing is good. The writing is what is driving me crazy! Patrick thought this, and then Patrick turned around, and Patrick said.... the same name is used again three or four times in the same paragraph. Pronouns! Grasp the concept! Or perhaps there are even other ways to indicate Patrick is still the focus, such as; "The sheriff," or, "her boss..." And please, when the scene changes, put a blank line in or something. The kindle edition I have doesn't do that. One moment we're on the mountain and the next we're flashing back to a year ago, and there is no break to indicate we're switching scenes. Perhaps this is some of the poor editing referred to by several reviewers. I can only assume that loyal fans are basing their 5 star reviews on previous books. There are several accounts that mention something to the effect, "...but this one is not as good as her others." And then they go on to give it 5 stars. The plot is interesting but a little draggy, so I'll give it 2 stars, but I'm wondering if after finishing half of the book I even WANT to finish it. Sorry. I just don't care for it.

I have rated this book with two stars off the top because of the sex scenes. Just not needed! I do enjoy this author's writing, but having to just skip an entire chapter irritates me because of the sex scenes! I also took a star off for the poor proofing of this book. There are too many typos and there just was no reason for the lack of spacing between scenes. It took a little too much thought for me when I had to go back a few times to see what was going on. The topics changed, but there was no indication of it. Then there often was not even indenting for the new topics. Just confusing.What really upset me about this book was the underlying crack or whatever with each new chapter. I got so that every time I changed to a new chapter I wanted to throw my Kindle at the author! SO IRRITATING!

The author knows how to craft a crime event narrative that is at times fascinating but totally drops the ball on the plausibility of some of the characters as well as how an actual plane crash investigation works. To start, the main female character a forensic nurse is on a SAR team for rescue as in her own words "they need her for medical care at the scene". Yet, she admits she has no recency of experience whatsoever on working on living people, nor recency of training in that area and seemed perplexed how to treat one of their team when they became sick. You don't send a forensic nurse out to a wilderness crash site to help the injured, especially one with a known phobia for water crossing and no GPS or compass skills. Then her boyfriend takes off in a helicopter in a snowstorm when military helicopters can't get in the area to look for her because of the weather. Seriously? Days into the adventure as the team search for the surviving passenger, a serial killer who manages to live for 3 days in extreme cold with no food or water, there's no sign of the FAA or NTSB Go Teams, who have the same gear as a SAR team to get into the area to investigate the plane crash. Nope, the wreckage is tampered with, and the victims buried, and the storyline completely wrapped up without any of the people that actually investigate a plane crash showing up. I rode it out until the end which was a pointless, graphic sex scene which was in line with much of the descriptive writing in this book which consisted of repeated bulging neck muscles and eye rolls which was amateur at best. I rather enjoyed the first in this Bones series as I liked the detail that went into the forensic odontology main character in that one but I have deleted the rest of them already ordered.

I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys sports/adventure biography. First of all, the format of the book is easy to follow with two narratives, one of Alex and one of the co-author, D. Robert. At first, I wondered why Alex chose this format as he already writes decently. Then, I realized this format provided a third person perspective for the readers to appreciate the gravity of some of the accomplishment. Alex's choice of co-author definitely was superb - I have read several D. Robert's books, always enjoyed them. Secondly, aside from the obvious (but still thrilling) climbing accomplishment/adventure, Alex's sense of humor really came through. The book was very entertaining to read! Finally, I think anyone who appreciates athleticism/adventure, climber or not (I have climbed but am not an avid climber), will enjoy this book for a lot of the "lessons" are universal. A side note, I really appreciate Alex's downplaying on those "lessons" - he doesn't overstate them, but really just tells a story and lets the readers decipher whatever apply to them. It is not "preachy", even though it still inspires the audience.

I became interested in Alex Honnold after the 60 minutes story. I never forgot his name, and just got around to ordering this book for my Kindle during an extended medical leave due to surgery . I thoroughly enjoyed his descriptions of the many "rocks" he's climbed. Having never been a climber myself, I was afraid it would be too technical to hold my interest. I couldn't have been more wrong. I was fascinated by his explaining how and why he's chosen to do this with his life. I also enjoyed reading about his various climbing partners and their adventures. I wish I had heard of him before our family visited Yosemite in 2011, as I would have heeded the park stranger's invitation to spend some time in El Cap meadow with a pair of binoculars to watch the climbers.

Very well written and well balanced book, between narrative and Alex's own writing. Incredible stories that will live on forever. I love the lack of ego in this book. Not many people in this world seem to appreciate the world the way Alex does. Everything is just very honest.This is a must read for climbers and non-climbers. It is about being a good person and loving what you do. Although not everyone can have the luxury to live in a van and climb in world's most beautiful rocks, we can take part in paying Mother Nature some extra appreciation and finding a side kick of something we love aside from our jobs.Glad to have people like Alex in the world everyone to look to for inspiration. Good people are awesome.

In my youth I climbed the route Alex went up in 3 days of the hardest climbing I had ever climbed.I spent the whole book nervously reading, it’s been 25 years since I have been in the route but still remember those cruxes. The achievements Alex has made in his career are incredible. To the non-climbers the choices on routes Alex chooses to solo may seem crazy, to those of us who have climbed seriously know how insanely bold those decisions are. The only place I have ever experienced complete concentration with no outside influences was leading a pitch. I could relate to Alex’s descriptions and emotional battles. He is in a class of his own, I hope to never open a paper to find out we have lost this person.

I was surprised after reading Alone On The Wall to discover that David Roberts is a climber, because when I was reading this book, it really seemed like he didn't "get it". It didn't seem like Roberts really understood or was on board with what Honnold was and is doing--his lifestyle, his climbing, and yes, his free soloing. Maybe it was because he didn't insert his own opinion into things--a lot of Roberts' writing is just summarizing interviews with other people. But there's a ton of people out there who either don't climb or climb more conservatively who have opinions about Honnold, and if I wanted to hear that, I'd read any of the hundreds of articles about Honnold on the internet. This book was a chance to hear from Honnold and find out what he thinks, and instead Roberts' writing is about what everyone else thinks--I just don't care about that.For the parts of the book which were actually written by Honnold--a lot of what he wrote is just responding to what other people say, which yields some insights, but I'd much rather have read what Honnold wanted to say. The problem here maybe is that Honnold doesn't want to say anything--he'd rather be out climbing. Which is great--that's how he became the climber who inspires me. But it doesn't make for a great book.I'll also point out that this book was published two years ago as of this review, and was probably mostly written in the year before that. In that time, I've seen Honnold mature a lot--his interviews on TV and podcasts show a person who has had a lot of emotional and mental growth over the last few years. The Honnold who wrote passages in Alone On The Wall is not the Honnold we know today--the one who wrote this is a bit immature, a bit distracted. I get the feeling that Honnold was pressured to write this book a bit before he was really ready to be writing a book--it's a bit weird to write your story before it's over. I really hope this isn't the last book we see from Honnold, because I think if he were to write a book now or later in his life, it would be a lot better.Contrast this with The Push by Tommy Caldwell. There's a book written by an older climber who knew what he wanted to write. At the surface level, it turns out to be a book that's much less about climbing, but it's far more vulnerable and insightful, and gives readers a much better understanding of what motivated Caldwell to become one of the best climbers in the world.

Was absolutely captivated. Especially by the first 3 or 4 chapters which explain the Video shoots of Alex free-solo climbing and how he became a modern legend. Very interesting as he explains what he's thinking and his mental preparation for free soloing. Also how he approaches his climbs and general outlook on life and risk-taking. If you watch his videos on YouTube, you'll buy and read the book. What he can do on the face of sheer mountain faces is unbelievable and has to be seen to be believed.
