This book is one of a very few that offer a clear and balanced introduction to what crytocurrencies are, how they originated, and what the future might hold. This is not a book about bitcoin or the currency exchange markets in cryto, it is a book about the collection of technologies that make up what we now call "the blockchain" and how and why value can be stored and transferred securely and publicly on these chains.It does not address Ethereum or programmable blockchains in any real way, but it will give you deep foundational understanding about how such a thing can possibly exist. If you care about where networked computational technologies will be going in the next 25 years start here.

Don't bother with any other book than this gem for getting up-to-speed on Blockchain Technology. Tough sledding to get through, but it is thorough in taking you from start to finish about crypto, how it works, and how it can be implemented in business and society. I ordered several other books that I thought could do the job, but Mr. Narayanan and his co-authors nail it. Yes, in some parts it can be a bit technical, which causes a bit of slowdown in reading, but it will not leave you lacking for details of how BCT works and how it can be implemented.Hard copy that costs a bit more, but is worth it. I simply wanted to learn about BCT, and this book delivers.

This has just the right amount of detail to understand the mechanics of how bitcoin and various altcoins work, without drowning in enough details to re-implement them. Each chapter focuses on a specific aspect of cryptocurrencies, covering it succinctly and with a balanced approach. Arvind does not come across as a cryptocurrency fanatic, nor is he dismissive of the technology.

Prof Felten et al have written a technical yet approachable introduction to blockchain technology and its applications (bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies). A first or second-year CS student will be comfortable with the technical portions of the book. But the general material is suitable for any audience.My only critical comment is that much has changed in the bitcoin / cryptocurrency community since late 2015 when the book was written. It would be good to update the book to reflect current hash rates (which are 25x higher), the rise of Etherium, and the hard fork that resulted in Bitcoin Cash.

This outstanding book gives a comprehensive description of the technology behind bitcoin and related currencies. It covers not only the programs used inside the bitcoin system, but also gives a clear, intelligent discussion of such issues as the security risks, the incentives to maintain the system, the economics of mining and mining pools, and government regulation. It goes beyond bitcoin, with a chapter or two on applications which build upon bitcoin, development of related cryptocurrencies and future research directions. This is a serious effort, suitable as an introduction to research in the subject; each chapter includes appropriate references. There is also a wonderful preface about how the technology behind bitcoin evolved over a couple of decades. The book is really a pleasure to read, I couldn't put it down, and I've been recommending it broadly.

Very interesting and thorough explanation of how cryptocurrencies work and the details of Bitcoin. There are video lectures available for each chapter which are very useful!

This is a very good book on a timely topic. I started reading it and quickly got stuck. I don't have the cryptography prerequisites. So, I am currently taking the Cryptography I Coursera course from Professor Dan Boneh. Hopefully the course will give me enough background to finish the bitcoin book. There is also a Coursera course on this book. So, I am looking forward to getting through this book.

This is NOT for a beginner as it delves into some very technical aspects of this technology. It’s basically the textbook for the FREE blockchain course from Princeton. Recommended if your block geek.

Great book. Lost idea in today's world sadly.

There are all ready sufficient reviews of this book that a shopper ought to be able to make a decision whether or not to purchase it. What prompted me to add another was my impression that some of the reviews need to be questioned. This is a thin book, a light weight study on an extensive subject. Piper attempts to cover a lot of material in very few pages.Some reviews might give the impression that this book is sufficient in and of itself to provide the reader with a workable understanding of the marital relationship. If after reading it you close the cover and think that you have sufficient foundation to live out a healthy marital relationship, you are headed for trouble. This book should be followed up by more comprehensive writings on the subject. Doing so might not appeal to many men as the role of marital head is very demanding and counter to all tendencies to be selfish.Some other reviews give the impression that the reviewer is well versed in the doctrinal position of John Piper. If you are going to attack the theology referenced in this book, this is the wrong forum. These attacks would be better debated against books like Wayne Gruden's "Biblical Manhood and Womanhood" which provide a more extensive foundation for their conclusions. For shoppers, these reviews could lead them to demonize the book and its author, to their own loss.

As always, Dr Piper is on target if your theological convictions are thoroughly biblical in their origin. He is fresh air in an age where doctrinal smog seems to be preferred over black-and-white clarity.

John Piper delivers a carefully studied Biblical portrait of what it means to be a man or a woman. The principles are based on sound Biblical exegesis, but without a lot of technicality and detail. The chapters dealing with "The Meaning of Masculinity" and "The Meaning of Femininity" are dealt with by the use of carefully constructed definitions that are unfolded word-by-word. Extensive space is given to describing the masculine role of leadership. Piper's approach is Scriptural, and therefore relevant; and he labors hard to bridge any apparant gaps between the Biblical model and its contemporary relevance. He avoids hard and fast rules for specific circumstances, and sticks to sold principles which should govern male-female relationships of differing levels. This would be an excellent book for pastoral premarital counselling.

this book is every good we are doing a woman bible studies and this goes with it one lady read the book and really liked it now another lady is ready it.

Terrible... I have a conservative background, my gf has a liberal background. We read through this together and were both pretty put off by it. He makes wild claims about what is the right and "mature" thing to do. At one point he basically lists a bunch of career types that women shouldn't do.

I like everything about this book. It's a nice size, it is made well, the tabs are easy to read, each set of letters has 3 tabs assigned (each tab contains 6 places for websites/passwords to be entered), and there are sections in the back of the book to keep track/notes regarding software, wireless, router, etc. The lines for writing are about the same size as notebook paper. Each individual section allows for the website name, username, and 5 lines for dates/passwords. -I will probably use the extra dates/password lines for notes since I write my passwords in pencil rather than ink. I've added a few pictures in hopes of showing the size vs an IPhone 6s, the writing area, and a view of the tabs.

I purchased this logbook to replace the little address book I was carrying as a portable password book. Although I love the looks of this book, the sturdy hard cover, and having more pages for entry, I do feel that the entry slots themselves could use some editing. Currently each page has blocks for 3 websites/username/5 date & password entries. My preference would be to omit one of the 5 date/pw entry lines and replace it with a blank line to use for miscellaneous information. (E.g., I note clues to remember information like "dad's mom's middle name", or dividend miles number, or a contact phone number). The pages are divided by two alphabet letters (e.g., AB, CD) with about 8 pages for each. I decided to circle the letter of the alphabet on the tab and split them further into A, B, C, D to make it easier for me to quickly find.A plus is that in the back of the book there are pages to note software license number, purchase/subscription license dates, monthly fee. There are another couple of pages for Broadband Modem (model, serial #, address, URL, etc) and Router/Wireless Access Point (again, so you can track your info) Three pages are dedicated to WAN settings, LAN settings and Wireless settings. And finally, at the very back are 4 pages for Notes.

Good size (easy to hide), 5 passwords per site, and plenty of room per letter of the alphabet. Some of the various reviews of similar products indicate the desire that every logbook have ever possible feature, somehow be a great price, and somehow not be the size of a novel. This one does a great job and meets all my needs.

I bought this password book as a present for Christmas, but I liked it so much, I went back and bought another one for myself. Love that after I took the sleeve off the cover, it looks like any ordinary notebook. Hiding in plain sight. Now, I can keep things organized in alphabetical order. The lines are not too crammed together, and there are five lines of passwords for each entry in case we change the passwords. Great, because not all password books share that feature.In addition to the alphabetical tabs, the book includes sections in the back for logging information on software (license number, subscription fees, etc.), broadband modem settings, router settings, and other notes.

After losing all my passwords on a digital source, I decided to go old fashioned tech with this logbook. It is just what I wanted and needed! Nice leather outer, organized inner. The perfect answer to keeping all those passwords straight.

I had previously bought a similar password logbook and started to use it, but when I saw the attractive tan cover on this version, I decided to buy it and give up on the other one.Unfortunately, the design of the pages poorly planned. Besides providing a place to enter the URL, username, and password, it has 4 more lines for updated passwords, leaving very little space to write anything else. Other password logbooks leave blank lines for notes, which are useful for those questions and answers like "Where was your father born?" Sometimes I have been forced to change my password because I couldn't remember the exact answers I gave to the questions (e.g. New York, New York, NY; New York City). There is no space to write this information, so I consider the book useless, even though it is pretty.Also, it is not spiral bound, so it doesn't lie flat.

I got this to see if it would help me to keep all my passwords, etc. straight! It has worked WONDERFULLY well!!!! I don't have to "guess" any more or worry about writing it down when it changes and then loosing the info! Everything is in one place and one place only and its all very easy to find!

A nice looking Book, well made and a great concept in this crazy world of passwords for everything, My only con is that you need to have handwriting that can legibly write tiny letters to get all usernames and password in the allotted stay. The pro is that the book is small enough to be used where ever you are,

My research on Guillermo del Toro’s art has taken me to a host of scholarly volumes as well as handsome, oversized making-of-the-film tributes. In this study, though, I find the volume that most successfully combines those two drives.Messrs. Seitz and Abrams investigate technique, script & camera challenges and joys, the tragedies of Spanish history, filmic influences, psychology behind casting, and just how some of the most iconic images in 21st Century war & ghost cinema came about.The book features an abundance of storyboards and behind-the-scenes makeup SFX, as well as revealing essays from principal cast & crew. Probably my favorite parts are the inserted biographies del Toro wrote for key characters (unavailable elsewhere, as far as I know) and the lengthy interviews with del Toro that go far and deep under Seitz’s thoughtful questioning. Very nice cookbook, tasty recipes, but some of the recipes lack a bit of practical detail. For example, one recipe called for 8 day old bread rolls - which equals how much dry bread? 1 cup, 2 cups? I wanted to use a loaf of dry bread instead - how I do figure out what amount equates to 8 bread rolls? It does make a difference, as then we are told to add 1 cup of warm milk to soften the bread. So I added one cup of milk, but the bread was still hard. Or to add 1/2 bunch of flat parsley, chopped? What is sold as a bunch of parsley at my store may be more or less than at your store! That being said, it is like learning to cook with your wonderful grandma, who would add a bit of this and lots of that, and cook it 'until it is ready'! Even so, what I have tried so far has been very tasty, once I played around with the measurements. For their second edition, the authors might want to consider adding a bit more specificity to some of the recipes, since we don't have a German grandma sitting beside us to tell us that is enough of this and that! I love the format overa, with bios and photos of the grandmas too, and look forward to trying out more of the recipes too.

I'm German and was looking for a gift for my American friend who loves to cook. She asked me a couple of times for German dishes and I always had problems with the translation. So here we are.. in my opinion it's a great book with authentic meals. You won't do anything wrong with this cookbook!

A superb book that preserves our German heritage before it wanes. One trivial criticism; the book contains no recipe for goose, a holiday standard. A word about Spanferkel would help too. Nonetheless, destined to be a classic if not so already.

I love this cookbook! I bought one and then bought four more to give to all the German "Grandmas" in my family. The pictures are lovely (I am a visual learner so I need a picture of whatever it is I am making), the stories and background were interesting and fun to read, and best of all, the recipes are delicious and easy enough for anyone to follow. This is German cooking for everyone, including the two vegetarians in the family.

Recipes are simple to understand and turn out great every time. Also great for beginner cooks like me who are very visual.

If you are looking for a German cookbook, this might be just what you're looking for. There are a lot of authentic, traditional recipes--NOT Americanized. Some of the recipes are from three, four generations back. There are all the German recipes you expect, plus many that you may not be familiar with. There are some old-time techniques also, and that makes for some very interesting times in the kitchen. These are old-time gourmet recipes, NOT new and innovative takes on traditional German food.Besides the authors sharing so many old and very authentic recipes, here are some things I liked about the cookbook: Great pictures of every recipe, very vibrant colors; information on where the recipes originated; interesting stories associated with many of the recipes; most everything is "from scratch" (you won't see any canned goods in the ingredient lists, except maybe a store-bought fresh pasta or bouillon cubes here or there), and I really appreciated the terrific (though few) fruit and veggie jams, butters and pickles.What I didn't like and why I knocked it down a star: It has a very poor index--such a shame. Also, the authors' writing is a bit "home-grown" and in no way sophisticated.I'm still very happy to have this book in my collection. The old recipes are very special, and I greatly appreciate the authors sharing them.
